How dare you leave this Jason Todd discourse in the tags.

  • most recent windows 11 update is wiping SSDs

there's been multiple reports of people's computers not booting properly after the windows 11 24H2 KB5063878 update due to it essentially wiping the hard drives (specifically SSDs) on computers and laptops. users have reported their SSDs aren't able to be read/recognized and unable to be seen in bios settings either.

    sources:

it's safe to assume all SSDs can be potentially affected by this update, so if you haven't updated yet turn off autoupdates

the bug caused by this update is seemingly triggered by installing/moving/deleting large files (50+ gb), which as simmers is what a lot of us do very pften

if you're unsure what windows version you currently have:

    • go to settings > system > about (at they very bottom) > and scroll down to see the current OS version
    image

if you do currently have windows 11 24H2:

    • in settings, click 'Windows update' > 'Update history' > and under 'Quality Updates' check to see if the KB5063878 update is in the list of recently installed updates
    image

don't panic, you can uninstall this update!

    • while in 'Update History', scroll to the very bottom and click 'Uninstall updates', and click 'Uninstall' for 'Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB5063878)'
    image

from there, give it some time to remove the update and after pause updates for as long as possible (5 weeks is the longest i think), but it will force an update if there's a big/official update for the fix

if you've already been affected and your computer is not starting or giving errors regarding your hard drive, i recommend visiting small pc repair shops to try data recovery as some have reported placing their SSD in an enclosure seems to work to recover the data

hopefully this is helpful is any kind of way! friendly reminder to back up your data to an external drive routinely!

  • HAPPY PRIDE MONTH TO THIS ICON SPECIFICALLY!!

Real. Unbeatable had its first trailer in 2018 and is coming out this year, that's eight years. Disco Elysium took five years for its fully voice acted "final cut" release. Pizza tower took five years. Psychonauts 2 took six years and had to be saved by a Microsoft buyout. Of the Devil posted its first devlog in 2022 and only got chapter 1 out this year. Deltarune chapter 1 came out in 2018 and it only got the 4th of its seven chapters this year. The development time on Silksong is, frankly, exceedingly average.

  • Heck, if you compare it to indie metroidvanias specifically, rather than indie games in general, seven years is on the low end. In terms of indie metroidvanias of vaguely comparable scope, we've got Phoenotopia: Awakening (also seven years), Ghost Song and Owlboy (both nine years), Iconoclasts (either eight or eleven years, depending on whether you count the cancelled Ivory Springs prototype), Rune Fencer Illyia (still cooking at the time of this posting at six years and counting), and whatever the fuck Hearth Forth, Alicia is doing (don't ask).

I think a lot of folks' expectations are skewed here by the fact that the first Hollow Knight game's development cycle was freakishly quick (and suffered for it; between reports of unsustainable crunch time and the frankly disgraceful state of the game engine at launch, it probably could have stood to spend a couple more years in the oven, too!).

immediately that visual is so cool in my head

  • while I don’t agree with that referring to men in their 30s-early 40s as “old man yaoi”, I UNDERSTAND why many people who primarily consume honest-to-goodness BL manga are quicker to call it that, because there is just such poor representation for men that aren’t hairless dehydrated 20-something twunks. They’re wrong, but I get why it happens.

I also understand that “middle-aged yaoi” isn’t as fun to say as “old man yaoi”, even when it’s more technically accurate.

So I would like to propose new vocabulary: Grown Ass Yaoi. yaoi that’s grown ass men. they’re not old but they’re not young adults either. you get me? Grown Ass Yaoi

    WAIT—

  • One of the awesome things about chronic pain is that stress and exertion almost always exacerbate it, which means you will consistently get flare ups when you need to be locking in. a second awesome thing is then trying to convince yourself, while doubled over in pain, that you are not faking it to get out of work

  • How much discourse do you think there is in the kpop demon hunters universe over Huntrix's breakup? I assume half the fans are analyzing every second of footage from the last three years looking for signs of tension and arguing about the whose fault it was and half the fans are posting that it's actually kind of fucked up to ruin the Idol Awards with a fake onstage breakup just to build up to dropping a new song, even if it is kind of a banger

@sagewiththyme You know that's a fascinating point because I figure the two options are a) no one really remembers what happened at the end because of magic bullshit or b) they play it off as a really elaborate but fully planned performance.

And the second one - can you fucking imagine.

Imagine one of the most popular bands in the world have this ongoing lore bit that they're actually demon hunters and they're always referencing it in their songs. And then one day a new boy band pops up and gets wildly popular with an over-the-top-cutesy hit. They're so soft and sweet and respectful. They're called Saja (Lion) Boys and they're all like "join the pride!" How cute!

And then they announce a new concert and you get there and it's fucking this. They're all dressed as demons/grim reapers. Surprise, "Saja" meant Jeoseung Saja all along! They're singing about how they're here for your soul and they relish in your pain, just a stunning 180 from their previous personas.

And then while you're trying to process the emotional whiplash the fucking demon hunter band bursts in and beats the shit out of them with the most insane pyrotechnic show you've ever seen in your life. They "kill" the boy band demons and then you never see them again. The whole band was a fucking psyop for Huntrix to play up the "demon hunters" bit.

I would never recover. The cheesiest fantasy power metal band has NOTHING on that level of commitment. I'd be stanning Huntrix for the rest of my life.

  • good morning it's don't crash out Thursday where we try our hardest not to crash out. on Thursday

  • Reminder that people aren't entitled to see into your decision-making process unless you've agreed that they are. Just told a business acquaintance that I'd "just finished up my previous commitment". It's not their problem to know that it was DND.

  • Just to make sure no one schedules meetings on top of my D&D sessions, BUT ALSO to avoid any chance of my coworkers figuring out when I’m playing D&D, I always block sessions out on my calendar with the appointment title:

    “Conflict Resolution Seminar”

It’s not a lie, I’m discussing with a small group how to resolve conflict. Not my fault that the answer is often violence.

  • Bro I love you but if I saw in the communal calendar that one of my coworkers had attended thirty conflict resolution seminars over the last year then I would immediately assume they had committed innumerable acts of workplace violence and management was too scared to fire them
